Class Code: MSC004
Registered for my Patchwork Sashiko Clothing Embellishment workshop at Quiltcon 2025? This is the place for you! Here I will be adding more information about the class as we get closer to the big event.
What do I buy? What do I bring?
You must buy:
There is no kit to buy! BUT, if you purchase any supplies below from my shop and you want me to bring them to Quiltcon instead of shipping them to you...you must let me know by typing this into the "notes for seller". I can then refund your shipping cost if applicable. Thanks!

Required Supplies:
- Woven top or blazer: One that can open fully in the front will be easier to maneuver and access while hand-stitching. A thick denim will be more difficult to hand-stitch through. I recommend a garment that is constructed of lighter fabrics.

- Fabric scraps: Bring enough to cover the area of at least a fat quarter (18” x 22”). These will be applied to your garment, so choose them according to your personal aesthetic. At least 5 different colors/patterns.
- Minimum 5’’ x 7’’ piece of muslin: We will layer practice fabric scraps on this piece and practice hand-stitching before applying what you learned to your garment.
- Practice fabric scraps: Bring enough to cover a 5’’ x 7’’ area. These will be applied to the muslin for practice.
- 11” x 14” flexible cutting mat: We will cut this into smaller pieces.
- Size 2 Crewel Needles: Available in my Etsy shop.

- #10 weight white cotton crochet thread: I recommend bringing at least 50 yards. It is typically sold in 350 - 800 yard increments. Most common brand is Aunt Lydia’s.
- (3) silicone needle pullers to fit on your thumb, pointer finger and middle finger: Available in my Etsy shop. These are not rubber thimbles.

- Scissors: For cutting the scraps into different sizes and shapes. TSA allows scissors with a blade length of 4” or less in your carry-on.
- Seam Ripper
- Lots of straight pins with a ball end: Pins with a flat head tend to catch the thread more as we’re hand-stitching.
- Fabric marking pen or pencil: Bring a marking pen or pencil color that you can see well on the scraps that you are bringing. I personally use the Clover Chaco Liner in White for dark fabrics and a Frixion pen for lighter fabrics. These tools are available in my Etsy shop.
- Clear Quilter’s ruler approximately 9-12” in length and no more than 2-3” wide.
Optional Supplies:
- Clover Embroidery Needle Threader: Threading the needles needed are different from a regular needle threader due to the orientation of the threading head. Available in Diana’s Etsy shop.
